When were they founded?
City Index has been knocking around the City since 1983 after being founded by legendary City face Michael Spencer. However, in 2014 City Index was sold to “the Americans” Gain Capital who also run Forex.com.
ETX has been around as a spread betting brokers in it’s current form since 2002, but can trace it’s roots as a professional broker back to 1965. ETX is still a member of the London stock exchange under it’s original name Monecor
How tight are their spreads?
Who has the better bonus for new clients
ETX is the only broker of the two to offer a welcome bonus for new clients. So if you are planning a new account you may as well sign up and claim a deposit bonus of up to £5,000 based on your initial deposit.
No Bonus on offer with City Index, but they do have some good educational tools, a £2,500 demo account and regular webinars.
Trading platform choice
Both ETX and City Index have a good mix of trading platforms. Their own Advantage Web and AT Pro for City and Trader and Trader Pro with ETX. Both spread betting brokers offer MT4 and you can trade on pretty much any device. Not much between the two brokers here.
How broad is the market range?
City Index does offer more markets than ETX Capital. You can trade around 15,000 markets with City Index versus 5,000 or so with ETX Capital. ETX can add new markets by giving the back office a call.
